Hallie Stillwell

napofeature2Day 3 poem fan letter.

Saddled up, Dad told her
"You are going on a wild goose chase"...

Tamed west Texas
Rancher, marksman
Teacher, writer
Justice of the Peace.

Lived through two world wars,
Pancho Villa Revolution, raids along the Rio Grande,
depression, influenza droughts.

A woman who learned
to live, work, and act like a man,
Embraced changing with the times,
Kept the home fires burning,
A real Texas legend and hero.
...And from her saddle Hallie said,
"Then I'll Gather my Geese."

  1. Well, your post intrigued me so I went and looked up Hallie, and I am glad I did! She is like Texas’ Laura Ingall Wilder! What a lady, what a tale, and what a life! Thank you for that Texas tidbit about an amazing woman!
